ICANL Accredited Nuclear Laboratory

Southern Heart Specialists is proud to be one of those laboratories recognized by ICANL, or International Commission for the Accreditation of Nuclear Medicine Laboratories.

A growing number of nuclear cardiology laboratories are being recognized by the ICANL for their commitment to a high standard of patient care and quality diagnostic testing. The ICANL was established with the support of the American Society of Nuclear Cardiology, the Society of Nuclear Medicine, the Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologist Section, the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Nuclear Physicians, and the Academy of Molecular Imaging.

Using a peer review mechanism, the ICANL encourages the provision of quality nuclear cardiology and nuclear medicine diagnostic evaluations, and recognizes laboratories that are providing excellent service.  Through a process of voluntary accreditation, laboratories are reviewed by an independent agency and recognized for quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.

ICAEL Accredited Echocardiography Laboratories

Echocardiographic testing is a noninvasive way to diagnose cardiovascular disease.  Acquiring accurate results from this complex imaging technique is highly dependent on the experience and training of both the physician and the sonographer.  The Intersocietal Commission for the Accreditation of Echocardiography Laboratories, or ICAEL, evaluates the quality of these and other important elements of an echocardiography laboratory, and recognizes those laboratories that offer a high quality of care in the testing and diagnosis of cardiovascular disease using echocardiographic testing.

Through a process of voluntary accreditation, laboratories are reviewed by an independent agency and recognized for quality testing for the diagnosis of heart disease.
Southern Heart Specialists is one of the first thousand echocardiography laboratories in the United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico to be recognized by the ICAEL for our commitment to a standard of excellence in patient care and our provision of quality diagnostic testing.

What is Means to be a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (F.A.C.C.)

The American College of Cardiology advocates for quality cardiovascular care through education, research promotion, and the development and application of standards and guidelines.  Physicians are elected to fellowship based on their outstanding credentials, achievements, and community contribution to cardiovascular medicine.  Only those physicians who are members of the American College of Cardiology may use F.A.C.C. as a professional designation.

The strongest evidence of achievement for those who earn the F.A.C.C. designation comes directly from their peers.  A necessity of election, letters of sponsorship from other F.A.C.C.s and medical school faculty attest to the physician’s competence and commitment to excellence. When accepting election to Fellowship in the American College of Cardiology, each physician pledges “cooperation and loyalty to the attainment of the ideals” of the College, first and foremost of which is promoting excellence in cardiovascular care.
